YOUR FIRST VISIT

We can’t wait to meet you! We start our Sundays in the worship service together. During the service, there is a children's moment where kids are invited to encounter God's Word. After the moment, children from preschool through 3rd grade are invited to join the children's ministry team for children's church in our upstairs Kid’s Min Room.

The room is located at the top of the stairs from the lobby stairway in Room 222.

Each week there will be an activity that allows children to connect to God's Word and apply the lesson to their lives.

Following the sermon in the sanctuary, parents or guardians can head toward the doors on either side of the front of the sanctuary to pick up their children as they receive their blessing from Ms. Megan.

Sacred Circle

Every Tuesday and Thursday at 11AM, Children's Director Megan McKinley shares a short devotional that inspires kids to read god's word.

WHAT WE VALUE

Discipleship

Each of our weekly meetings – including Sunday School, Children's Church, and GodzKidz – focuses on building the characteristics of  followers of Christ. These characteristics are rotated monthly.

Growth

Whether it is the spiritual, physical, emotional, or social growth of your child, we strive to meet the needs of each phase of development.

Play

Bible stories are the center of each lesson, but through "holy play" activities, these lessons become practical life skills that coordinate with the Bible story presented each week.

Safety

We strive to maintain a safe and secure setting for every child and vulnerable adult. We practice Safe Sanctuaries. All volunteers undergo periodic background checks, complete safe sanctuary trainings, and attend our church for a minimum of 6 months before volunteering with our children.

Relational

We focus on relationship building between our volunteers and children by offering consistent teachers in Sunday School classes along with a small group of rotating volunteers for children's church. We foster relationships between the children through small groups and team building activities.

Blessing

We believe that children are a blessing! We have inherited God's promise to Abraham  found in Genesis 12:2--we are blessings and we will bless others. Before leaving each gathering children are reminded that they are a blessing.

Hi, I'm Megan MCKINLEY

I am the Director of Children's Ministry, although my desk plate says "Chaos Coordinator!" I equip our team of awesome volunteers to experience God with kids through "holy play." I am passionate about turning Bible lessons into games to have experiential learning about what it means to practice being a Christian. When I'm not in the office, I love being in nature, especially on a hiking trail with my husband and our dog, Boone. I'd love to meet your family and get to know you!

If you'd like to contact me, you can send an email to children@m1umc.org.

SAFE SANCTUARY

God has called us to make our ministries safe, protecting our children, youth and vulnerable adults from abuse and exploitation. God has also called us to create communities of faith where children, youth and vulnerable adults can be safe and grow strong. At M1UMC, all of our staff and volunteers receive training to keep your children safe. All who wish to volunteer have to be a part of the church for six months or more and have a clean background check before they are allowed to work with students. With our Safe Sanctuary policy, a child is never in a room alone with an adult and all activities are in open, or viewable areas.
